We love vintage Goldy and his shenanigans! Here’s another great game program from 1964 football season.

Another item from the Jake Ricker collection. The Gophers did “Whipurdue” at their 1947 homecoming game.

The U of M boathouse was completed in 2007. Here is a photo from construction. The Gophers are able to practice in an indoor tank there in the winter, but luckily today was beautiful and they could row on the Mississippi!

Before Jalen Myrick's 100-yard kick return touchdown on Saturday, only three Gophers had returned kicks that far before: Jermaine Mays (top) did so in 2000 against Indiana, Rick Upchurch (bottom left) in 1974 against Wisconsin and Bobby Weber (bottom right) in 1977 against Ohio State.

In Game 1, Brewers’ leadoff batter Paul Molitor becomes the first player to collect five hits in a World Series game. The third baseman’s 5-for-6 Series performance helps Milwaukee rout the Cardinals, 10-0, the biggest shutout margin since Yankees blanked the Bucs 12-0 in 1960.

Great as a Gopher, great as a pro.

Lieutenant Colonel Bernie Bierman left the Gophers football team to serve in the military during World War II.

St. Paul in the 1930s was a haven for gangsters…as was the 1983 Gopher volleyball team, apparently.

Nineteen years ago today, Chris Darkins set the Gophers’ single-game rushing record with 294 yards against Purdue. Find more “This Day in Gopher Football History” here: z.umn.edu/fbhistory
